Did Jar Jar Binks ruin Starwars episode I?

I think he did personally. Not just him, but he introduced his stupid race and slobbering idiotic king into the movie!!

Well Maverick, I do think he added character but did the character need to be added? He is very annoying. I would not mind throwing him into the sarlacc pit! Muahahha :twisted:

I must say, without Jar Jar, the movie really couldn't be. He got our Jedi friends to Naboo! But he is fro children only, and Starwars was created for adults!

Yeah I think Lucas Arts is kind of forgetting that because they are making those graphic style cartoon shows? I mean they are cool with all of the action but really?!

Star Trek seems to never leek into the freaking cartoon channel like Star Wars has... I mean they made Star Wars potato heads...

In the cartoon's defense, Starwars is a long and intricate saga, more needs to be explained than whats in the movies. Lucas Arts definitely has a reputation for hoaring out their creations though. That last Indiana Jones movie just went to far. Shia Labuff is definitely not worthy!

Watching Episode I makes me wonder; was Aniken Skywalker the biggest fuck up of Starwars? Bigger than Jar Jar?
I mean, he had incredible potential. He was the chosen one! and still, he failed. Am I wrong? He made amends in the end, but he caused a great deal of damage. He murdered younglings!

Yes, Mav, I definitely think Anakin was the bigger of the two fuck ups. At least Jar Jar brought along some good with him. What did Anakin really do, besides act irrationally and bring about years and years worth of more fighting and discord? But, from a series perspective, Anakin's fucked-up-ness was extremely vital. Jar Jar, on the other hand, could have been a very lovable character if they wanted him to be, but instead he is hated by thousands of Star Wars fans.

I kind of went off on my own tangent there, but that's the meat of my opinion.

Well, I have a hate for him... Lucas arts just HAD to put a little romance in... but it was lame teenage romance.. In episode 4-5-6 there was some drama and romance but it was not all Mr. Dreamy and then his hoe! So I agree with you Kevin! ON THAT!

Come to think of it, he did bring order to the galaxy in the end when he through that douche wad Darth Sideous down the tunnel. So I guess he did fulfill his destiny.
But that only really means that darth vader fulfilled his destiny and not Aniken.

Well supposedly right at the end he turned back to Anakin. So he wasn't Darth Vader anymore. That's really just a technicality, I think, but it counts for something in the scheme of things.

I don't look at them as the same person at all.

Well they weren't the same person. Not in the least. That's why Ben was able to tell Luke that Darth Vader killed his father. Because he became a completely new person. But it took whatever power Luke had over him to turn him back. To make him have and want to use the Force for good again. Luke turning him back made him Anakin again, and that's how he was able to fulfill his destiny.

Perhaps. But what's in a name? I think darthanakin or whatever you want to call him was corrupt. He wanted to save his wife and unborn children, I think we all would have done the same. After all those years Luke came back and he still cared about his children more than himself or even the galaxy. I think it was the same exact person. He just had so much anger.

Yes, Anakin was always there, but the Sith part of him took over. He started out wanting to save his wife and unborn children, and as he started to choose the Sith path more, he became corrupt. But I think that once Padme died, he lost faith in any sort of hope or anything that Jedi and the Force stood for, and that's when the complete transformation was made. The true Anakin remained dormant in some way, the part of him that loved his family more than anything, and coming face to face with a son that loved him was just enough to push back that Sith veil that had been clouding his decisions and thoughts for so many long years.

In both ways. He endangered the lives of Jedi's countless times. Then that stupid king made him a general...big mistake. Anyway, he made poor choices and it was a poor choice to make him a character in the first place.
